Ross, Ted Ted Ross

Ted Ross grew up in his parents’ ballroom and is an accomplished instructor and performer in many forms of dance including International Standard and Latin, American Smooth, Rhythm, Swing, (East Coast and West Coast), Night Club Two Step, Salsa and Argentine Tango.

Having competed and performed for over 25 years in the United States and Europe, Ted was a first place winner in the International Standard Division as a junior competitor and second place winner in the Latin Division at age 14. Shortly thereafter, Ted turned professional and was awarded high honors as an associate in International Standard and honors in Latin at the licentiate level by ISTD. By the age of 21, Ted became Dance Director of the “Fred Astaire Dance Studios” in Jacksonville, Florida.

Ted became “top teacher” in several dance schools across the country and worked with many talented dance partners and coaches over the years. Some further achievements included that of International Latin Semi-Finalist in New Jersey’s “Cherry Hill” competition by age 23; Second place in the Rising Star Standard Division at the “San Francisco Autumn Dance Classic” in 2002; Finalist at the “San Francisco Open” in 2004; and first place in the Standard Division at the “Ultimate Dance Sport Championship” in Sacramento, California in 2006.

As owner and director of “The Candlelight Ballroom School of Dance” for over seven years, coupled with six years as co-director and co-choreographer of the “San Francisco Ballroom Dance Theatre”, Ted Ross is regarded as an exceptionally well-rounded professional in the field of partner dancing. Ted is certified by DVIDA, as well as ISTD, and is a DVIDA Regional Examiner.

As a long-time proponent of the DVIDA syllabus, Ted has made use of DVIDA extensively in his own training, coaching and competing, and has been instrumental in assisting several ballrooms with the adoption of the DVIDA syllabus.
