Bronze American Rhythm: Ron's explanations are detailed and clear, which makes learning a joy. Despite his years of advanced experience, he is able to reach back and recall details necessary to make steps work for the beginning and intermediate dancer. As in all Dancevision DVDs, steps are demonstrated multiple times from different angles, broken down individually for the man and lady, with additional time spent on details necessary to make the steps work in partner position. Ron's expertise and explanations are the primary focus on these DVDs, but it should be mentioned that Karla is a beautiful and extremely professional dancer as well. Just learning the 15 steps and technique covered on these Bronze level DVDs puts you in the top quarter of social dancers at any event you'll attend in the future. The secret: if you're teaching yourself from these DVDs, pay attention to all the visual details. Learn the steps by listening and practicing, then come back again and notice things that are different between your steps and what you see on the DVD (a video camera during practice is excellent for this). Make corrections and be prepared to graciously take compliments on your dancing the next time you're out.

My name is Joe Kaufeld, an instructor-in-training of ballroom dance at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. As part of learning the steps to teach, I was granted access to the DVIDA bronze syllabus as well as the videos. My partner and I wanted to tell you that out of all of the videos we've seen, we find the ones you have taught to be, by far, the most helpful and easy to understand. We look forward to "working with you" whenever we start a new dance (in this case, merengue).

We just wanted to say thank you for helping to bring your considerable talent to a place where people like I and my partner can learn, and thank you both for showing us how beautiful the dances can (and should) be.

    Never stop dancing!

Suitable for committed dancers. I bought the Johnson/Kozak Cha Cha, Waltz, Tango, FoxTrot, EC Swing and Jitterbug DVDs from DanceVision after finding a couple of them in our local library. I also bought the Ron Montez Beginner/Intermediate American Rumba DVD since there was no American Rumba DVD offered by Johnson/Kozak. The Montez DVD is more smooth and professionally presented and there is a lot of material on the DVD; (it also costs twice as much). But for a beginner I think the Johnson/Kozak DVDs are much better. Watching them makes you want to get up and dance! That does not happen with the Montez DVD; it is so smooth that all the life has been squeezed out. The Montez DVDs may be better for more advanced dancers, but the Johnson/Kozak DVDs have a raw and honest energy to them that is invaluable for beginners. Ms. Kozak instructs for the all the moves of the lady in their DVDs; Ms. Montez does not speak in the Montez DVD. Ms. Kozak adds a lot to the value of the Johnson/Kozak DVDs.
